Bermuda-based Third Point Re has added two industry veterans to their staff.According to Artemis, a re/insurance blog and the Insurance Insider, the firm has added Bryan Bumsted and Chris Conway to their staff roster.Mr Bumsted was a retrocession underwriter at Q Re while Conway was assistant vice president of reinsurance underwriting at Axis Re Bermuda.Bumping their staff count to approximately 15, Third Point Re officially begun operations in January of this year.Third Point LLC, an $8 billion New York-based hedge fund founded by Daniel Loeb, is behind the new reinsurer.John Berger is Third Point Re’s chairman and CEO, who prior to joining the firm, was CEO of Alterra Capital Holdings. He was previously president and founder of Chubb Re Inc and also led Harbor Point Re, which merged with Max Capital last year to form Alterra.In January, Mr Berger said the reinsurer had expected to hire more staff but it depended on the state of the marketplace. “We are starting off small and as the market changes we expect we will hire more,” he said. The company, said Mr Berger, has very strong backing, with $785 in capital, and a goal of raising up to $1 billion.
