Energy tips to feature on bus handles

Bus passengers will be able to pick up energy saving tips thanks to a new advertising campaign from the Department of Energy which focuses on energy efficiency. The campaign titled ‘Did You Know?’ features small advertisements on bus handles Island-wide with statistics regarding energy consumption. The ads also offer tips on how residents can save and cut energy costs and they seek to raise awareness on energy consumption trends. One of the new bus handles cites statistics regarding local energy behaviours, explaining that residents typically spend between $550 and $2,200 on transportation fuel each year. The same ad continues to advise that switching to a motorbike or highly-efficient car can save residents hundreds of dollars on their fuel bill.Another bus handle ad states that air conditioning accounts for 40 to 50 percent of residents’ electricity bills and offers tips to reducing these numbers.Minister of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure, Marc Bean, said: “The aim of this bus handle ad campaign is to encourage residents to become better informed when making choices about their energy consumption by using helpful resources such as the Department of Energy’s website www.energy.gov.bm.“Energy Conservation is essential for the Island’s energy independence. No investment in renewable energy technology is meaningful until conservation measures are also adopted by us all. Energy Conservation helps us all save money and, in today’s economy, every dollar counts,” added the Minister. The ads, designed by the Department of Communication and Information and created by Impact media, will appear in buses for a three-month period.Additionally, the Department of Energy promotes energy conservation through other resources available on their site, energy.gov.bm. These resources include Energy Efficiency Fact Sheets and Renewable Energy Guides, among other tools.
