Bermuda finish winless in Trinidad

Bermuda women’s team were dismantled 5-1 by Puerto Rico in their third and final group game at the Caribbean Cup finals in Trinidad & Tobago yesterday.

Naquita Robinson’s side, who won their qualifying group in Turks & Caicos in May, lost all three of their games in Trinidad to finish bottom of group A.

They were thrashed 9-1 by table-toppers Jamaica on Thursday and 4-1 by Haiti on Tuesday. Bermuda, who were missing Marley Christian through suspension and Ebonie Burgess because of an injury, fell behind early on when Karina Socarrás scored for Puerto Rico but pulled a goal back after Miosoty Garcia turned the ball into her own net.

On 15 minutes Zahimara Fantauzzi restored Puerto Rico’s lead with Bermuda then conceding again on the stroke of half-time when Scout Benson found the net.

After the interval Bermuda leaked two more goals from Socarrás and a penalty from Maria Aquino.

Jamaica and second-placed Haiti have qualified for the Concacaf Championship, a qualifying tournament for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
