School openings
Government schools will not be open tomorrow, although some private schools will be.
Warwick Academy, Somersfield Academy and Mount Saint Agnes Academy will welcome students back tomorrow morning after Hurricane Gonzalo.
The Bermuda Institute will open at 8.30am for teachers and 9am for students.
Saltus Grammar School’s Secondary and Upper Primary will also be open but roof damage at Cavendish, the Devonshire campus, means the Lower Primary will be closed.
Staff are hopeful of reopening on Tuesday.
A Government spokeswoman said this evening: “Out of an abundance of caution, all Government schools will remain closed tomorrow as assessments on various school facilities continues. Principals and teachers are being asked to attend their respective schools tomorrow to assist in preparations for reopening.”
The Bermuda High School suffered minimal damage but will reopen.
BHS students and staff who do not have electricity are welcome to wear grub clothes.
“The Bermuda High School will be opened at the usual time on Monday, October 20,” said Head of School Linda Parker. “We have just had our electricity restored and I am happy to report that we have only received minor damages. The school is ready and safe for the return of all students and staff.”
The Onionpatch Academy will be closed but staff are asked to report to the school to assist with preparations for opening on Tuesday at 7.30am.
Bermuda College will reopen to students on Tuesday from 8.30 am although night classes will resume tomorrow from 4.30pm.
College security and facility personnel are asked to report to the campus tomorrow morning at 9am.
Other staff and faculty members are requested to be on campus at noon.
