Residents in Pembroke feared an explosion had occurred near Northlands Primary School after hearing two extremely loud banging sounds at about 10pm.
Berkeley Road was closed off and a Bermuda Fire and Rescue truck was parked at the school.
But it quickly became apparent that only a small fire had broken out under the rear of a truck parked outside the school, with the banging noises likely to be from the tyres bursting, according to an onlooker.
There did not appear to be fire or smoke in the school, the onlooker added.
