Minister’s tribute to TCD officer
Tributes have been paid in Parliament to Jasmine “Jasz” Saltus, a respected officer within the Transport Control Department who died on Thursday at the age of 41.
A former detective from the Bermuda Police Service, where he gained a baton of honour as a trainee, Mr Saltus had also served as warrant sergeant in the Royal Bermuda Regiment.
Shawn Crockwell, the Minister of Transport, told MPs that Mr Saltus had been recently appointed acting special investigations officer, and had his sights “firmly set on ascending into senior management”.
He said he had been shocked to learn of Mr Saltus’s passing while receiving medical treatment overseas. Opposition MPs Michael Scott and David Burt also paid respects.
“He was known for his strong and thorough knowledge of all the transport-related legislation and he was truly a team player, always thirsty for knowledge and eager to share his knowledge with others,” Mr Crockwell added.
Mr Saltus had started at TCD in 2007 and had proved “very ambitious”.
Mr Crockwell offered condolences to Mr Saltus’s father Bobby Gomes and mother Roselita Saltus, with the rest of his family and TCD colleagues, saying his sudden loss would leave a significant void in the department.
