Turtle talk at BUEI
Updated: Mar 10, 2016 02:26 PM
The history of sea turtle nesting on Bermuda’s beaches will be detailed by Wildlife Ecologist for the Department of Conservation Services, Dr Mark Outerbridge, in a lecture at the BUEI next Thursday (March 17).
The island once had a thriving sea turtle nesting colony, but years of targeted hunting by humans caused the rookery to collapse.
Dr Outerbridge will describe a number of sporadic, natural nesting events recorded during the past 25 years and will end with a short sea turtle nesting video. The audience will also be given the opportunity to participate in a beach monitoring programme.
The lecture will begin at 7.30pm — members $20, and $25 for non-members. Tickets are available by calling 294-0204 or visiting BUEI’s Oceans Gift Shop.
