A man was and banned from the roads after he admitted drink-driving when he almost crashed into a police car.

David Brunson, 30, pleaded guilty to the offence yesterday at Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that Brunson was driving a car at high speed along Trimingham Road in Paget and almost collided with a police car at the junction with South Road.

Police suspected Brunson of drink-driving when they confronted him about the incident.

Brunson admitted he had been drinking, but insisted he was fit to drive.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

It was not said in court if Brunson had taken a breath test.

Brunson also admitted driving without a licence.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Brunson $1,000 for the drink-driving offence and banned him from the roads for 18 months.

He also fined him $200 for not having a licence.
