Comedian performing at Fairmont Southampton
Comedian Gary Owen is bringing his particular brand of funny to Bermuda.The American actor is a familiar face on the big screen. His credits include starring roles in Ride Along, Meet The Blacks and the upcoming faith-based film, Restored Me.He promised “a funny ass show” for his stage debut in Bermuda at the Fairmont Southampton tomorrow night.“This is my first trip to Bermuda and I am so pale that I hope to get a good base for my suntan,” said Mr Owen, who Ebony magazine dubbed ‘black America’s favourite white comic’ in 2011.“I just finished filming my comedy special, I Got My Associates and I also filmed a pilot for a reality show for BET following my family life in Cincinnati.” Mr Owen and his six siblings were raised in a trailer park in Oxford, Ohio. He got his start in stand-up comedy in the United States Navy, where he was called the Funniest Serviceman in America. He got a gig at The Comedy Store in Hollywood after he won the Funniest Black Comedian in San Diego contest.His big shot came after an appearance on BET’s Comic View; he became the only white man to have ever hosted the show.American comedian Eugene Harding will perform tomorrow night along with Bermuda’s own Nadanja Bailey and Eddie G.
