For a third successive year, team members who walk around the National Sports Centre track non-stop for 24 hours will be doing it for a worthy cause as funds raised will help boost awareness of cancer prevention and detection.

The end-of-the-month Relay For Life is asking that each member of each team contribute at least $100. Teams will be between 10 and 15 people.

The Ironshore-sponsored relay at the Centre’s north field will begin at 6.30pm on Friday, May 27 and end 24 hours later at 6.30pm on Saturday.

Ninety-five per cent of funds raised will support Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s radiation therapy initiative. The other five per cent will be donated to the American Cancer Society to help fund cancer research, prevention and care programmes.

“So far from the 2014 and 2015 events combined, we have raised over a million dollars — the first event was an extremely successful event and the second being even more so,” said Tara Soares, executive director of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. “This year we are hopeful to raise even more to help fund our new radiation therapy treatment centre.”
