Pupils from Bermuda won praise for their artwork in an international competition.

Althea Faith Sevilla, of Purvis Primary School, was the overall winner of the Life in the Caribbean art contest organised by Medical Air Service Association in Florida.

Geraldine Sidders, of St George’s Preparatory School, came second and Prince Domingo, of Gilbert Institute, was third.

But MoonGate Group, which hosted a reception for the competition at its offices in Sofia House, Hamilton, declared all 12 Bermuda entries were winners.

A spokeswoman for MoonGate said: “These budding artists didn’t allow the Covid-19 pandemic to stop them. They completed and submitted their renderings to the Medical Air Service Association headquarters in Tampa, Florida.”

The children received certificates, art pencil sets and MoonGate gift bags.

MoonGate said the contest aimed to boost pupils’ morale and enthusiasm in returning to a new school year.

The other entrants from Bermuda were Filipa Duarte and Freddie Duarte from Port Royal Primary School; Siena Frankson and Sa’Rae Denbrook from Harrington Sound Primary School; Trayonah Maina from Purvis; Ethan Hochberg and Eva Worsick from St George’s Prep; Rudy Puhekker from Francis Patton Primary School; and Gabriela Viera from Gilbert Institute.
