Specialist insurer Hiscox has a new home.

The company has moved to new digs in Chesney House on Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke, in the heart of Bermuda’s reinsurance hub.

The new locale is head office for the Hiscox Group as well as a location for Hiscox Re & ILS.

It will house some 73 staff, the company said, which represents huge growth since the Bermuda office was set up in 2006 with a team of five.

The goal when designing the office was to create a space that felt free-flowing and open, encouraged collaboration across teams, supported the company’s passion for the environment, and was a functional and comfortable work setting, Hiscox said.

The company said it was also critical that the space could serve for formal occasions, such as when the Hiscox board have meetings, while maintaining the community feel that’s so important to Bermudian culture.

Hiscox said some of the building’s highlights include telephone booths for private meetings, “living walls” in both the reception area and primary work floor, and a new kitchen that allows for family-style eating.

The company said it also has an “eye-catching video wall” that highlights key achievements of Hiscox Re & ILS and the wider Group.

Hiscox said the office’s official opening was attended by Bermuda staff, Hiscox chief executive officer Bronek Masojada, members of the company’s board of directors as well as John Rankin, the Governor and David Burt, the Premier, and Curtis Dickinson, the finance minister, and other guests.

Mike Krefta, chief executive officer of Hiscox Re & ILS, gave opening remarks followed by Rob Childs, Hiscox chairman, who was among the five staff members that established the Bermuda office in 2006.

The office was designed by Darcy Robertson of Commercial Interiors Group, Hiscox said.
