Nahki Wells believes that he can thrive playing under newly installed Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton.

The 29-year-old Bermuda striker has rejoined the Sky Bet Championship side on a season-long loan and has promptly embraced Warburton’s football philosophy, which he feels will bring the best out of he and his fellow team-mates.

“I have no doubts he [Warburton] wants to play football in a very exciting way,” Wells said. “I think it’s going to get the best out of the players that we have.

“I think it gives me a better opportunity to do what I’m very good at, which is to get on the end of our chances created and scoring goals.

“If I’m in a side that’s playing very good, attractive, attacking football, then I feel like I can really thrive and I’ve proven that in my time at Huddersfield and previous to that.”

Warburton is delighted to have the Bermudian back at the club.

“He [Wells] is known to the supporters and to his team-mates, so that’s a huge plus for us,” he said.

“His qualities are there for all to see. He has experience within the division and he gives us that option now because we were light up top.

“We only had Jordan [Hugill] and Jan [Mlakar], and with injuries and the demands of the season, we needed to have more attacking options. Nahki gives us that.

“We need competition for places all over the park and now we have that in place.”

Wells signed a three-year deal with Burnley for £5 million in August 2017, but was limited to making just ten substitute appearances for the Premier League side before going out on loan at QPR last season, scoring nine goals in 48 appearances.

The Championship side made a successful swoop to secure the former Dandy Town player’s signature on transfer deadline day, which closed at 1pm Bermuda time yesterday.

“It’s good to be back, extremely excited,” said Wells, who notched his first goal in a QPR shirt in a 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

“It’s good to see a lot of old faces and excited to come back and get my head down and play some football.

“I think everyone knows how much the club means to me and once the opportunity arose, it was always going to be me coming back if I had the opportunity to do so.

“Once the opportunity came here, I didn’t have to second-guess. I knew it was somewhere that if the opportunity arose that I would’ve returned immediately and just thankful that the opportunity has presented itself.”

Wells says he feel as though he has some unfinished business to tend to at the club.

“I still feel like I have a lot to offer,” he added. “The fans have only seen spurts of what I’m capable of.

“They didn’t see it enough and now I have the opportunity to right those wrongs and come back and score more regularly, and try to do as well as I can to help the club propel up the league, which is everyone’s intentions, of course.”

QPR host Wells’s former club, Huddersfield Town, at Loftus Road tomorrow.

“It’s no hiding the fact that Huddersfield have a big place in my heart,” Wells said.

“I’m fully fit, no problems. Feel as good as I could be.

“If the opportunity presents itself to be available in the squad, I will be right up for it to play against my old club.”
