The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bermuda has been given a $3,000 boost, thanks to a campaign by RUBiS Energy Bermuda.

The “Season of Giving” promotion, which ran throughout December at nine of the Island’s RUBiS stations, raised $1,516 in public donations. That sum was then matched by RUBiS Bermuda.

The monies raised will help to support the award’s island-wide development and expansion plans, which are aimed at reaching a wider cross-section of Bermuda’s young people.

David Rose, the managing director of RUBiS Bermuda, said that the youth development programme was perfectly aligned with the charitable and community objectives of the company.

“The future of Bermuda depends on the attributes of our young people and the personal development and enrichment of our youth is certainly an objective we are happy to support,” Mr Rose said. “With the help of our dedicated network of dealers and the support of the general public, we are proud to contribute to this positive social programme by matching the amount raised by the public.”

RUBiS sales manager Jermaine Simons added: “The Duke of Edinburgh’s programme helps Bermuda’s young people to receive skills, confidence and a positive view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to colleges and universities. Participants help make a difference to other people’s lives and their community, which is something the RUBiS family strives to do every day.”
