Politicians continue battle over `misleading' statements
Shadow Transport Minister Erwin Adderley has turned up the heat in the debate over oversized cars by providing verbatim transcripts of the House of Assembly debate which he claims proves Works and Engineering Minister Alex Scott misled MPs.
In The Royal Gazette on Tuesday, Mr. Scott accused Mr. Adderley of conducting a "campaign of misinformation''.
Mr. Scott also rejected Mr. Adderley's call for him to be sacked or resign for allegedly misleading the House over the importation of the oversized Peugeot 406's for Ministers and the Premier.
Mr. Adderley said in the House last Friday that Mr. Scott should resign for misleading the House and the Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown should also go for possibly duping MPs.
Mr. Scott rejected the call on Monday night, saying Mr. Adderley was misleading people through a campaign of misinformation.
He vowed to answer all or most of the claims in the House today.
On Tuesday, Mr. Adderley provided verbatim transcripts from the clerk of the House of Assembly on the debate on December 17 which he alleges support his claim that Mr. Scott misled the House.
He said: "According to the transcript, I asked on December 17: `Is it proposed to get cars for those Cabinet Ministers who do not presently have cars within the next year?' "He replied: `We are aiming to provide those who need a car in the future, but there is certainly not the intention to do it within the next year. We are buying them according to budget and need.' "The first car was there three weeks later, on January 12. It is clear, it cannot be ambiguous. That is what he said.
"Three weeks later, one oversized car was there and before the end of the fiscal year two additional oversized cars were on the road.
"It is clearly misleading the House and it is as simple as you can get.''
