Teens confess to crime spree -- More than $160,000 worth of jewellery and cash stolen

Three teenagers were hauled before the court yesterday charged with break-ins that landed them more than $160,000 in loot.

Two of the accused pleaded guilty to stealing more than $160,000 worth of cash and jewellery from several Southampton homes in February of this year.

But a third youth denied charges stemming from the robberies that netted $167,057.50 worth of cash and jewellery.

The families of Tafari Gary Mallory, 18, Jessie Yannis Mills, 17, and Devon Peter Simons, 16, filled the plea session of Magistrates' Court yesterday morning as Crown Counsel Shade Subair charged the trio from Sandys with the spate of robberies.

Mills, of Simmons Lane, did not have a lawyer and pleaded guilty to seven charges of breaking and entering.

Initially, Mallory and Simons sucked their teeth and rocked from side-to-side as they pleaded not guilty to seven charges related to breaking and entering.

Their lawyer Larry Mussenden stood nearby clutching his papers.

But in a bail hearing later that afternoon, Mallory, of Sound View Road, changed his plea to guilty.

Simons, of Rushy Lane in Sandys, maintained his not guilty plea and will stand trial in May.

All three were remanded in custody while a social inquiry report is carried out.
