Butterfield Bank shares jumped by $3.65, or 10.4 per cent, to $38.75 after 382 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index. In New York, the bank’s shares were up 29 cents, or 0.77 per cent, at $38.02.

On the local exchange, shares of HSBC Holdings were up five cents, or 0.61 per cent, at $8.15 after 20,000 changed hands.

There was also trading in 50 shares of Ascendant Group, but with no change to the closing price of $20.50.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 164.16 points, or 7.58 per cent, at 2,329.16, while the BSX Insurance Index was up 6.01 points, or 0.41 per cent, at 1,478.37.
