QE2 back on brief stoppover

The cruise season remained busy this week with all five ships arriving on schedule.

Meyer Agencies reported Horizon arrived from New York with 1,597 passengers on Monday.

She berthed at Number One Dock in Hamilton and shifted to St. George's on Wednesday. She sails for New York this morning.

Dreamward also arrived Monday with 1,431 passengers. Docking first at Penno's Wharf, St. George's she moved to Hamilton on Tuesday morning and returns to New York this afternoon.

In the West End, Meridian arrived at King's Wharf, Dockyard on Tuesday with 1,282 passengers. She returns to New York tomorrow afternoon.

Both Song of America and Royal Majesty arrived on schedule with 1,479 and 1,218 passengers respectively, reported a spokesman from John S. Darrell.

On Sunday, Scarab from Dalhousie, Canada berthed at Number 7 Dock, Hamilton with 300 metric tonnes of newsprint. She departed for Puerto Rico on Monday.

Hungarian bulk carrier Balaton stopped off at Royal Naval Dockyard on Monday afternoon. It is not known how long the 93.89-metre ship which was en route from Portugal to Tampa and loaded with steel will be staying in Bermuda.

Two fuel tankers, Cervantes and Entalina arrived this week. Cervantes , a 97.5 metre tanker, berthed at the Esso Oil Terminal at Ferry Reach.

She carried 180 metric tonnes of propane for Shell Bermuda.

Entalina a 170-metre tanker arrived from the Caribbean at the Dockyard steel depot on Wednesday. She off loaded gas oil at Dockyard and will shift to the Esso Oil Terminal today to discharge aviation and car fuel. She leaves Friday morning.

Espartana is scheduled to arrive from Venezuela, South America at Commercial Berth, Dockyard on Saturday with 5,756 metric tonnes of Portland gray cement on board. She is 114 metres long.

Regular container ships Bermuda Islander and Oleander arrived as usual this week.

Bermuda Islander coming from Salem, New Jersey and berthed at Number 7 Dock on Monday where she discharged 64 containers including five reefers.

Container Ship Management reported that Oleander arrived on Sunday and departed Tuesday after discharging 125 dry and 40 refrigerated containers, steel, five cars, one truck and a boat.

STAR SHIP -- The 963-foot Cunard flagship Queen Elizabeth 2 , the last of the trans-Atlantic liners graces the Dockyard cruise terminal during a recent visit to Bermuda. She is stopping in Bermuda again on Saturday enroute from New York to Southampton, England.
