Toddler is improving
Police officers is improving in hospital.
The two-and-a-half-year-old boy is in a satisfactory condition on the children's ward at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, following a dramatic life-saving operation on Saturday afternoon.
And the two Police officers, who came to the assistance of the boy, have been praised for their actions.
Acting Insp. Robin Sherwood and P.c. Brian Iris brought the unconscious child back to life after his mother flagged down their patrol car at Admiralty House, Spanish Point.
A Police spokesman said: "The mother had taken the child into the water, was distracted for a moment, and looked around to see the youngster in difficulty.
"The child wasn't breathing. P.c. Iris put him in the recovery position and applied pressure, which caused him to vomit sand and seawater.'' At the hospital the boy was kept in the Intensive Care Unit before being transferred to the children's ward.
Yesterday, a Police spokesman said both men were relieved to hear that the child was recovering.
The incident was a normal part of their job, he said, and they had simply put their First Aid training into practice.
Neither the officers nor the mother wished to comment.
