Franklin double fires Hornets to victory

Somerset Trojans 1Dandy Town 4Fabian Frankson’s second half brace spearheaded a Dandy Town blitz as they strolled away comfortable winners over Somerset Trojans at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.Frankson’s goals were the difference between the two sides with Aquino Grant grabbing the first for the visitors and substitute Lorenzo Simmons completing the rout, while Tyrell Burgess scored Trojans’ lone goal.Grant scored his side’s first goal in the fourth minute to silence the home fans who had been buoyed by their club’s encouraging start to the season. With possession at a premium in midfield, it would be a mistake by defender Kyle Webb for high kicking in the box that would lead to the leveller, when Ijahmon Mallory’s indirect free kick rebounded to Burgess who planted his effort into the roof of the Town net in the 32nd minute. With the scores deadlocked at the break, it was then the Frankson show as he put his side ahead in the 68th minute with a neat finish after good link-up play down the right flank found him in a yard of space. He grabbed his second seven minutes later when he nonchalantly beat Trojans defender Mallory in the box before unleashing a drive that gave goalkeeper Shaquille Bean no chance. The West Enders were no match for Town in the middle of the park and as time wore on they began to get picked apart by Seion Darrell and Frankson.Simmons, who had only been on the field for nine minutes, wrapped up the points with a simple tap-in from five yards in the 81st minute after an industrious run down the right by captain Damon Ming.Trojans were then reduced to 10 men when Jameko Harvey-Outerbridge was sent off for a reckless challenge on Frankson in the dying stages of the match.“It was critical that we bounced back from the first result of the season and we feel that this win will put us back on track,” said Ming. “We wanted a result whether a win or a draw, we achieved this and we are happy to beat a team that I think will be in contention for the league.“It is a good win on the road and all-round performance.“The coaches told us at the break that we were playing well but wanted us to step it up a bit and we did that and it resulted in the final score.”Somerset Trojans: A Jjombwe (S Bean, 46), T Ming, I Mallory, A Burrows, A Lambert, J Rogers (J Harvey-Outerbridge, 26), T Burgess, J Bean, A Trott, S Brangman, T Wade (J Simmons, 65)Subs not used: V Blanchette, N Smith, D Burgess, R Simons, G Smith, N Smith, M Jones, T HarveyGoals: T Burgess, 32Yellow cards: I Mallory, A LambertRed card: J Harvey-OuterbridgeDandy Town: T Gibbons, K Tucker, K Webb, A Lowe, B Minors (L Simmons, 72), F Frankson, S Darrell, J Stowe, D Ming, D Butterfield (R Beach, 83), A Grant (T Webb, 79)Subs not used: D JohnsonGoals: A Grant, 4, F Frankson, 68,75, L Simmons, 81Referee: A FrancisMan of the Match: S Darrell (Town).
