Why does ‘Keeping You Connected’ matter?

The first issue of The Royal Gazette included a statement that “The pages of The Royal Gazette will never be profaned by the scandals of private malice or the bitterness of party contention, but will be devoted to extracts from the most approved literature of the day and to the best original compositions that can be obtained.” That statement and mantra still exist today.

The Royal Gazette is Bermuda's only remaining daily printed newspaper.

The Royal Gazette is the most trusted news source serving Bermuda. We are storytellers and truth-tellers. We go where the facts take us to tell the definitive story of Bermuda. We cover a variety of topics of interest – from local politics to health and the environment; from business growth and development to technology and finance; from food and music to events and culture; and all major sporting events. We have the largest reporting teams in Bermuda and view our job as a calling. It is our passion to find news that is relevant to our community, and to share it with you while bringing context that can help our readers make sense of our world.

Letter from the CEO & Publisher

Dear Valued Readers,

As the CEO of The Royal Gazette Limited and a committed community member, I write to emphasise the importance of maintaining independent journalism in our society. The Royal Gazette is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of journalism, emphasising fairness and impartiality. With a surge in fake news on social media and messaging platforms, the role of a trusted independent news organisation in Bermuda has never been more crucial.

While The Royal Gazette is sometimes criticised for possessing bias, we endeavour to maintain independence and neutrality. Our primary responsibility is to report the news and to uphold the highest journalistic standards without creating news or managing public relations for businesses or political parties.

The public require a reliable source of news and information. While the internet continues introducing new ways of disseminating information, The Royal Gazette remains committed to delivering the truth through trusted independent journalism. In the spirit of transparency and community, we share some of our business's impacts and challenges and how your support makes a difference.

Why ‘Keep Journalism Alive in Bermuda’

Our Values

Truth and Accuracy
Journalists cannot always guarantee “truth”, but getting the facts right is the cardinal principle of journalism. We should always strive for accuracy, give all the relevant facts and ensure they have been checked. When we cannot corroborate information, we should say so

Independence
Journalists must be independent voices; we should not act, formally or informally, on behalf of special interests, whether political, corporate or cultural. We should declare to our editors – or the audience – any of our political affiliations, financial arrangements or other personal information that might constitute a conflict of interest.

Fairness and Impartiality
Most stories have at least two sides. While there is no obligation to present every side in every piece, stories should be balanced and add context. Objectivity is not always possible, and may not always be desirable – in the face, for example, of brutality or inhumanity – but impartial reporting builds trust and confidence.

Humanity
Journalists should do no harm. What we publish or broadcast may be hurtful, but we should be aware of the impact of our words and images on the lives of others.

Accountability
A sure sign of professionalism and responsible journalism is the ability to hold ourselves accountable. When we commit errors, we must correct them and our expressions of regret must be sincere not cynical. We listen to the concerns of our audience. We may not change what readers write or say, but we will always provide remedies when we are unfair.

Why does financial support matter?

Investigative journalism stands as a pillar of powerful news reporting. It is a rigorous quest for facts, often veiled in layers of complexity, aiming to unearth truths that may be deliberately hidden or overlooked. This meticulous process highlights issues of significance, presenting a comprehensive analysis of each subject for the public’s understanding.

The impact of such journalism can be profound, often sparking positive change within our communities. Below, we proudly showcase a selection of The Royal Gazette’s most influential investigative pieces, each a testament to our commitment to bringing pivotal stories to the forefront of public awareness.

We need Your Support more than ever

Producing the news is a resource-intensive operation that requires editors, reporters, press operators, technicians, designers, photographers, videographers, delivery persons, and many more roles to work daily so that The Royal Gazette can be published six days a week all year.

With the rise of AI, how can you trust what you read? The cost to investigate and fact-check the reports is why we maintain a desk of journalists, who cover the stories that matter to you.

Since the year 2000, we have spent millions of dollars have been spent on legal fees to defend the public’s right to know and uncover the truth behind stories that otherwise might have remained uncovered.

Unlike other publishers globally, we must invest in and maintain our own printing press to ensure that all our readers have access to our content.

In subscribing to The Royal Gazette, you can choose to have the newspaper delivered to your doorstep by 7am each day or to have online access our digitally published newspaper.
