Bermuda could be filled with live jazz music later this month, if organisers are able to achieve their goals.

Wendell “Shine” Hayward and others are hoping to celebrate International Jazz Day in style, bringing jazz music to as many members of the community as possible.

The event is scheduled for April 30 at 9pm.

“Over the past years, we celebrated and brought to the forefront, the impact of jazz throughout history, by offering jazz events in various venues across the island,” he said. “Much of the music we listen to today is influenced by jazz, the artists and the musicians. Hence, our objective is not to convert the listening ears but to raise their level of appreciation for this revered art form. During the jazz events, we showcased all local musicians; students, amateurs and the seasoned professionals.”

This year, he said invitations had been extended to multiple restaurants to change their Sunday brunches to “Jazz Brunches”, and to various churches, inviting them to recognise the day in whatever way they see fit

“This is perfect as most churches already have musicians who at some point in their lives were influenced by jazz,” Mr Hayward said.

Meanwhile, for the first time, the International Jazz Day Global Concert, taking place in Havana, Cuba and featuring a range of celebrated jazz musicians, will be shown at the Liberty Theatre.

Tickets to view the show are available at bdatix.bm and cost $30, including a cocktail reception featuring Dos Amigos.
