More than 1,000 surveys have been completed as part of an information gathering exercise by government to help establish a “new vision and strategic plan for public education” in Bermuda.

Additionally, about 60 individuals including parents, business people, teachers, principals and other members of the community, have been trained as facilitators of community conversations.

The community conversations have already been held in Warwick, Pembroke, St David’s and Sandys. This evening, a community conversation will be held for the general public at the Whitney Institute Middle School at 5:45pm.

The next phase of the strategic planning process requires the formation of an Ambassador Design Team. The team will be made up of about 25 people and aims to reflect a diverse representation of the Bermuda community, including students.

A Board of Education spokesperson said: “Individuals are strongly urged to apply to be a member of the Ambassador Design Team if they are good listeners, optimistic about public education, advocates for public education and want the best for public education. The role of this team will be to write the strategic plan using all the data collected from the online surveys and the community conversations.”

The survey is still open and will be available to the public until June 30. It can be found on the Ministry of Education’s website at www.moed.bm where regular updates about the strategic planning process will be posted during the next four months.
