Bermuda scholarships site adds internships
In response to interest expressed by Abic members, Bermudascholarships.com has added an additional search feature to assist employers to connect to student applicants for summer employment, internships and entry-level jobs.
As with the scholarships section of the site, Bermuda’s students can now browse the site from wherever they are in the world and apply for summer jobs, internships or entry-level employment jobs.
Richard Winchell, executive director of the Association of Bermuda International Companies, said: “We have always been a strong supporter of the site as it levels the playing field ensuring that any and all of Bermuda’s students, whether they are at school in Bermuda or already studying overseas, have access to all the scholarships offered by Bermuda’s companies and organisations.”
He went on to say: “This new employment feature will assist companies who have summer jobs to fill and help students to find those jobs. Each job listed has a short description and a link to find out more information and apply directly to that company.”
This feature also benefits employers, by using Bermuda scholarships.com they are able to access significant student traffic reaching a larger and more diverse pool of applicants and for the first time we will be able to assist companies in advertising their student and graduate job openings.
The Association of Bermuda International Companies is the fiduciary for the bermudascholarships.com website and the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies (BFIS) manages this site where all Bermuda scholarships are found.
There are 1,631 students registered on the site, 350 scholarships are offered and there were 3,134 applications last year (students can apply for more than one scholarship).
In 2016 $3.5 million was awarded in scholarships. BFIS makes annual presentations in all the high-schools to the graduating students to ensure they know about the site and how to use it, as well as promoting the site at the annual International Colleges Fair.
The site is also advertised in the island’s annual career magazines, ‘Your Future’ and ‘FastTrack’ as well as in The Royal Gazette scholarship supplements. As the site has been marketed either face-to-face with students or through the media since 2010, even students who are overseas at college know about bermudascholarships.com.
Thanks to the annual sponsors of this site, Abic, Bank of Bermuda Foundation, BFIS, Chubb, Ministry of Education, Nova, Oil, Renaissance Reinsurance, XL Catlin and Bridge Charitable Trust Fund.
