The Adult Education School has partnered with a raft of local artists in an effort to raise much needed funds to continue their programmes.

Tomorrow night, the AES will be hosting Transformations IV, an art auction and cocktail party fundraiser aimed at helping the organisation increase the capacity and scope of support it offers to adult learners.

Donna Daniels, executive director at AES, said: “Over the age of eighteen, there is no public funding for education. However, there is a significant population of adults who need support in order to find employment and contribute to society.

“The school currently catering to the needs of 60 students but is unable to meet the needs of several others who wish to enrol.

“The funds raised by the art auction will help us to serve these persons.”

The AES, located on Dundonald Street in Hamilton, offers classes in basic maths, reading and writing as well as preparation for the High School Equivalency Diploma. All students over the age of 16 are welcomed and accepted.

“Class sizes are small and the school promotes learning in a safe and non-judgemental environment.”

Tomorrow’s event, to be held at the Gosling’s Wine Cellar, will feature work by notable artists including Robert Bassett, Katherine Summerville, Amanda Temple, Jean-Pierre Rouja, Kathy Zuill and Meredith Andrews, while several pieces are being donated by former students and their families.

In total more than 30 pieces have been gifted to the silent auction including paintings, photography, mosaic and mixed media.
