Tyler still tops after strong swim
cruising to a comfortable victory in Sunday's Pirates Port/Island Press Sprint Triathlon at Clearwater Beach.
Battling for the honours once more with teenage rival Jonathan Herring, Butterfield minimised Herring's superiority in the water with an impressive 750-metre swim.
Although Herring matched Butterfield on the 20-kilometre bike, Butterfield's strong running ability enabled him to pull away on the five-kilometre run and win in one hour, 17 seconds, with Herring second in 1:03:08.
Former national triathlon champion Neil de ste Croix produced a strong bike and run to finish third overall and win the 30-39 age group title.
In the women's division, Karen Hackenberg enjoyed a convincing victory and placed 13th overall in 1:14:03 to follow her second place at the Tri Gatorade triathlon two weeks before.
Newcomer Karen Smith took second place and the 30-39 age group title after an excellent 5K run and Claire de ste Croix was third.
Tim Dewailly, an 18-year-old who hails from Quebec, Canada, made a sensational triathlon debut, finishing fourth.
Dewailly was a top junior swimmer in his home country and it was no surprise when he emerged first from the water, but despite his lack of cycling and running experience, he held his own against seasoned triathletes.
Nick Taylor and Chris Conway, both 14, qualified for the 13-15 youth team to compete in the British Junior Championships in August, in Manchester, England.
Taylor was fifth overall in 1:08:03 and Conway two places further back in 1:09:54.
Matthew Herring, who turns 13 this month, missed out on the 13-15 qualifying time of 1:15:00 by just 31 seconds as he finished 18th, just behind 15-year-old Mark Morrison who posted the second fastest run time of 17:57.
After putting himself in a good position on the bike, Brian Steinhoff lost time with a flat tyre, but recovered well to take 14th place.
Jim Butterfield (sixth) pipped Andrew Doble (seventh) to the men's 40-plus title by just 50 seconds, while Bob Oliver won the 50-plus category.
In the junior event, Adam Petty, 12, dominated the boys' field and Ashley Robinson-Roberts, 14, finished second overall to take the girls' title.
Flora Duffy, 11, placed third in her first advanced distance race in Bermuda and took the 11-12 title after trailing Melissa DeSilva and Ashley Kirkpatrick going into the run.
In the 7-10 boys event over a 100m swim, 5K bike and 1K run, Andrew Nichol's running strength earned him victory and the 9-10 title, while 7-8 winner Tim Fox placed second overall. Justin Collis edged Raishun Burch for third.
Emily Rowe led out of the swim and never looked back to win the girls 9-10 title, while Laura Ruse won the 7-8 category on the back of her usual strong bike ride.
Front Street mile winner Tyler Abbott took the lead on the bike on his way to the boys 11-15 title, while Chloe Kempe's blistering 2K run helped her win the girls 11-15 event in 33:59, just ahead of Robyn Dickinson.
A Try-A-Triathlon for adult newcomers saw Martin Bolton take men's honours and Sharon Fenn lead the women over the 100m swim, 5K bike and 2K run.
