Pirates fundraiser launched
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation is aiming to raise more than $150,000 for its youth programmes through its annual Pirates of Bermuda Fundraiser.
The 18th century re-enactment involves Governor John Rankin authorising privateers by Letter of Marque to kidnap community members for their riches.
Hostages have until Sunday, March 5, to raise at least $1,500 in ransom to be released or be made to walk the plank.
A statement from the Bermuda Sloop Foundation said: “This year we are particularly appreciative of all of our hostages, including some wonderful hostages teams.”
Bermuda High School for Girls, Saltus Grammar School, Mount St Agnes, and Bermuda Institute have hostages or hostage teams, with 100 per cent of their funds going towards those schools’ voyages. Other teams include America’s Cup Ladies and Women In Shipping and Trade Association.
The event takes place at #1 Car Park in Hamilton on Sunday, March 5, from 2pm until 5pm. To donate towards a hostage’s ransom or towards making them walk the plank, visit www.ptix.bm/pirates or call 737-5667.
