Kamau Leverock and his ICC Americas team-mates suffered their third straight defeat at the West Indies Cricket Regional Super50 in Barbados yesterday.

The squad made up of ICC Associate players from the United States, Canada and Bermuda went down by five runs on Duckworth/Lewis against a formidable Guyana side boasting past and present West Indies players at the Windward Cricket Club.

The ICC Americas posted 220 for seven, their highest total at the tournament, after being asked to bat first in a match reduced to 45 overs because of early morning showers.

Guyana required nine runs from as many balls to reach their target when bad light halted play with former West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul unbeaten on 22 and West Indies all-rounder Chris Barnwell, who made his first-class Twenty20 debut against Bermuda at the Stanford T20 in Antigua in 2008, on 29.

The ICC Americas had their opponents in a spot of bother after reducing them to 29 for two in the eleventh over.

However, a timely 131-run third-wicket partnership between opener Assad Fudadin and captain Leon Johnson put Guyana back in the driver’s seat.

Johnson led the way top-scoring with 78 from 85 deliveries, which included nine boundaries and a six, while Fudadin provided the perfect foil at the other end with a more sedated 54 from 97 balls.

Four ICC Americas bowlers claimed a wicket each with third-change Leverock going for 24 runs in his two overs.

Earlier, the Bermuda all-rounder scored 14 from 24 deliveries facing the new ball at the top of the order.

Leverock, whose knock included two fours, departed in the first power play after he was caught by Barnwell off the bowling of seam bowler Ronsford Beaton in the seventh over.

Nitish Kumar, the ICC Americas captain, led his team’s batting with 66 from 72 balls batting at No 3.

Timroy Allen scored 37 from 34 balls while Srimantha Wijeyeratne added a run a ball 27 and opener Fahad Babar 24 from 45.

Opening bowler Beaton led the Guyana attack, that included West Indies leg spinner Devendra Bishoo, with four for 28.

The ICC Americas are in action tomorrow when they face Jamaica Scorpions at the Three Ws Oval.
