Work stoppage continues at Corporation
Workers from the Corporation of Hamilton have downed tools for a second day.
As of 2.30pm this afternoon, roughly 20 workers had blocked the vehicle entrance to the corporation building on Canal Road.
Some carried placards, with the message “Don’t be a scab by crossing these lines”.
Two Bermuda Police Service vehicles sat parked in a lot across from the protesters.
The work stoppage began following a lunchtime vote by union members yesterday.
Chief shop steward Daniel Hayward told The Royal Gazette that nothing had been resolved from yesterday and there has been no further communication with the Corporation.
Mr Hayward added that the action would continue “until we get a fair result — a fair third party trial so to speak”.
He added that the workers just want “fairness and respect”.
Workers, including members of the garden, sanitation and engineering departments, are calling for a third-party tribunal into the dismissal of Garreth Bean, Robert Lee, Delmair Trott and Gregory Wainwright.
