All schools will remain open tomorrow, the Department of Education confirmed this evening.

A spokeswoman said: “The Department of Education is advising students and parents that all schools will remain open tomorrow and additional transportation has been arranged for TN Tatem Middle students who will travel to Clearwater Middle School for classes.

“Two additional mini buses will be available at TNT to transport students to Clearwater at 7.30am.

“The Department takes this opportunity to thank students, parents and teachers for their continued support.”

Meanwhile earlier this evening senator Michael Fahy announced that the island’s bus service would not resume tomorrow morning, but bus drivers who turn up for work will be able to work.

The Minister of Tourism, Transport and Municipalities said he had been told by the management of the Department of Public Transportation that “any operator who attends work tomorrow will be able to work”.

The DPT management is holding a meeting for all bus operators and staff at 8am tomorrow at Fort Langton Garage; an hour before the Bermuda Industrial Union’s General Member’s meeting is due to take place.

“As such, there will be no bus services tomorrow morning,” Mr Fahy said.

But he added: “Not all operators support this withdrawal of service. As such, I am told by the DPT management that any operator who attends work tomorrow will be able to work.

“The matters at hand are not labour issues and this makes the halting of bus services all the more unfortunate.

“The ministry is working on contingency plans for limited alternative services in the event that services do not resume tomorrow. It is incredibly sad that Bermudians are being inconvenienced to this level as a result of these circumstances.

Mr Fahy said that he had initially been advised that there was a high percentage chance of a resumption of services after today’s afternoon meeting, but it did not materialise.

“Again I commend all workers who have continued to give service and a special thank you to the bus operators who wish to continue to do their duty for the Bermudian public,” he added.
