As a Global Member of the Round Square Organisation, every year BHS holds a Round Square Day to honour the 6 IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service and celebrate their membership of this worldwide network of 160 schools in 40 countries.

Round Square membership affords BHS students the opportunities to take part in exchanges around the world, and participate in annual Round Square conferences and service trips.

In the past few years, students have travelled to Switzerland, South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, United States, and South America. There is an Adventure Fund at BHS which helps to ensure that students can take advantage of these experiences. On Friday, November 18, 460 students from Y5-IB2 took part in an island-wide clean-up in 13 different locations from Dockyard to St George’s.

Anne Hyde from Keep Bermuda Beautiful worked with students to help plan the environmental portion of the day, and many community partners helped interact with students at the different locations.

Students were tasked with raising money for their clean-up efforts, and the money was used to purchase new bikes, helmets and locks to give to children through the Toys for Tots programme. The girls raised a total of $3,181.70. The Coalition for the Protection of Children has identified the children who will receive the bikes. Year 5 and 6 students worked with IB2 students, in the afternoon, on a special project building bikes to be distributed to local children in need; a perfect example of teamwork, leadership and STEAM education all rolled into one fun, community minded activity.
