Canaries 2-2 during weekend action of the Bermuda Women's Hockey Association.

Canaries took early control of the game despite coming up against a stubborn Cardinal defence. A quick, two-goal burst from Rhonda Rawlins and Jacqui White appeared to put the game beyond the Cardinals reach.

Maria Pichery converted a penalty stroke moments before half-time to make the score 2-1 and gave them the momentum heading into the second half.

Margaret Lennard deadlocked the score, but the Cardinals missed their chance to take the lead when Canaries goalkeeper Tami Ray made an excellent save to slam the door on Pichery's second penalty stroke attempt.

Police Orioles also made Longtails work hard for their 3-2 victory, their first of the season. Orioles had opened up a first half lead with a goal from Rosemarie Daniels and appeared to be in a comfortable position until Longtails turned the tables after half time.

Three goals in the space of 20 minutes -- two from Lisa Desilva and a single from substitute Joanne Wilson -- put the Longtails in charge despite a late consolation goal from Marcia Ford of the Orioles.

Meanwhile in the B League, Cardinals and Canaries played out a 0-0 draw in a game which Canaries dominated but were thwarted in their numerous attempts to put the ball in the goal.

Bluebirds registered a 4-0 whitewash over a youthful, but spirited Swifts side. Bluebirds began the match with zest, but could not break down an extremely well-organised Swifts defence controlled by Tiffany Sousa.

Swifts gradually came into the game with the first half ending 0-0. Midway through the second half Bluebirds erupted for four goals from Elizabeth Stewart, Ailsa Campbell, Georgina Adlam and Sarah Smith.

SNOOKER SNO Sandys Sports Club II moved into the early season lead in the First Division with a 4-1 triumph over defending champions Old Colony Club I. Lawrence DeSilva (33-break), Tony DeSilva, `Sticks' Henderson and Timmy Simons won their first four frames of the match, with Brian Haxton pulling a black ball win over Greg Falzone in the last game to avoid the shutout.

Sandys II are a new entry in the league this year and have put together a formidable side with three former Bermuda Open champions along with Henderson, who has been a finalist twice.

Steve Dunleavy, Dennis Eve and Wally Tucker shined for Warwick en route to a 3-2 win over Sandys Sports Club I. Alan Simons and Zane DeSilva each picked up their second wins of the season for Sandys.

In the other First Division match, Queens I edged Queens II with victories from Graham Williams, Glenn Flood and Stephen Roberts. Paula Madeiros won her second game of the year for Queens II and was joined by Simon Wait.

In Second Division play, St. George's established an early season lead with a 5-0 drubbing of Old Colony Club III. The Hayward's -- Timmy, Irwin and Edwin -- along with Jason Payne and Jan Winch led the way for St. George's.

Victories by Conrad Soares, Ricky Sousa and Kenny Wheatley led Spanish Point to a 3-2 victory over Old Colony Club II.

MOTOCROSS SCR Kemo Simons, Chris Maxwell, Buddy Joell, Donnie Moss and Duprey Joell were the big winners -- all with hat tricks -- after the third round of the Pepsi Motocross Nationals at the weekend.

Despite a delayed start due to a shortage of emergency personnel, Simons and Jamel Hassall broke away from the pack on the 80cc bikes and battled neck and neck in the three races with Simons garnering the triple play.

Buddy Joell -- riding on a Caines 125 Kawasaki -- stole the spotlight in all three 125B races with Ras Mykkal (second place) and Justin Belboda (third) offering his only real challenge.

The Maxwell brothers were the toast of the 125C class with Chris finishing in first while Leroy ended up in second. Finishing third was Michael Burgess.

Moss and Duprey Joell, meanwhile, remained undefeated in 250C and 250B racing respectively.

POOL POO Paul Mathias fashioned his third perfect 50 of the season to lead league leaders Robin Hood I over War Vets I 228-155 in recent action.

Greg Falzone set a league record with his third 50 in a row to lead Queens Club to a 212-159 victory over War Vets II. Falzone moved into first place in the individual standings and Queens are now 6-1 with their only loss coming against Mariners by three points early in the season.

Al Alves (42) and Paul Doidge (40) shot well in a Vasco I triumph -- 194-176 -- over Hamilton Parish. Michael Burgess scored 43 for Parish.

Mariners got their second win of the campaign, a 201-170 victory over Vasco II behind Gavin Corcoran's 47 points and Ray Smith's 43.

In a heart-breaker, Swinging Doors II lost to War Vets II 195-193. Leading the War Vets were Randy Cooper (43) and Andre Burgess (42). Dennis Eve and Steve Lacey each scored 42 points for Swinging Doors.
