Sandys man fined for traffic offence
A 25-year-old Sandys man has been fined for driving without due care and attention.
Appearing in Magistrates’ Court, Khyri Smith Williams pleaded guilty to the offence, which happened in Sandys on June 7.
The court heard that Smith Williams was heading east on Somerset Road on a motorcycle when he entered the westbound lane and collided with a taxi heading straight onto Cambridge Road.
Smith Williams and his pillion passenger were both injured and Smith Williams was unable to talk after the accident.
His pillion passenger said he did not know what happened and that he would not be giving a statement. They were both taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
The forensic support unit and the traffic collision investigators attended the scene of the accident, which was also caught on CCTV.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed Smith Williams an $800 fine and issued him 10 demerit points.
