Lawyers on the march ... for charity
Local lawyers will be marching through the streets of Hamilton ... not in protest, but for charity.
The third annual Legal Fraternity Charity Walk aims to raise money for Coalition for the Protection of Children Breakfast for Every Child Programme and the CedarBridge Academy School Lunch Drive.
And the Bar Council, organisers of the event, are hoping for a large turnout from members of law firms, professional companies, the judiciary and support staff.
The event is open to runners, joggers, walkers and even those who simply want to stroll.
Beginning at 4.30pm today, the walk will start from the Supreme Courts and will take participants along Parliament Street, Dundonald Street, Serpentine Road and continue along Farrar’s Lane to Richmond Road, Woodbourne Avenue, Pitts Bay Road and Front Street, ending at Docksiders Pub.
“We hope your offices to allow members of staff to join the walk. However, we hope you will see that this event is a legal fraternity targeted fundraising initiative which will encourage camaraderie between members of the legal fraternity and provide for the opportunity to meet with members of Bar Council, the Judiciary as well as Court staff, all while fund raising for a very good cause,” said a Bar Council press release.
“This year, the Bar Council has introduced a new fundraising scheme in an effort to raise as much money as possible to donate to the charities and to exceed past donations. The charities both compete with other charitable organisations for donations in this current economy and our intention is to bring the Bermuda legal fraternity together in a fun way to raise funds for both charities by making a significant contribution to each of these worthwhile causes. All proceeds raised shall be divided equally between the charities.”
Each walker will pay a $25 entry fee and the Council are urging the participants to wear their firm’s or company’s branded hats or T-shirts.
In addition to the entry fee, firms/companies are asked to make donations in the following tiers: Tier 1 — $250; Tier 2 — $500; Tier 3 — $1500; and Tier 4 — $2500 or above
Donors can make their payment to the Bermuda Bar Association Savings Account held at Clarien Bank, Account number 401 000 1764 providing a clear marker of what the transaction is for and on behalf of which firm/company payment is being made. Payment by cash, or cheque may be delivered to the Bermuda Bar Office on the 2nd Floor of the S.E. Pearman Building, 9 Par-la-Ville Road, or mailed to PO Box 125, Hamilton HM AX. Cheques to be made payable to the Bermuda Bar Association.
