A 41-year-old taxi driver has been fined for causing an accident five years ago.

Brandon Levon, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to disobeying a traffic sign and driving without reasonable consideration for others on November 10, 2011.

Magistrates’ Court heard this morning that Levon’s taxi was stationary in the west bound lane of the Causeway, in the vicinity of the diagonal hatch by the steel bridge, when a motorcycle heading towards the roundabout hit him from behind. Police were informed and an investigation determined that Levon was at fault.

In court today, Levon said he had picked up passengers who then changed their mind about the journey and he pulled over to let them out.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Levon $800 for driving without reasonable consideration and gave him ten demerit points on his licence.

He was fined a further $100 and handed another two demerit points for disobeying the traffic sign.
