Trial date set for murder accused

An man accused of murder and a local cricket star were among the half dozen men that appeared for arraignment before Chief Justice Austin Ward in Supreme Court yesterday.

Gernel Leroy Darrell, 23, of Bay Hill, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to murdering George Kelly on May 31, this year. A November 19, trial date has been set for the matter and Darrell has been remanded in custody. Appearing for the Crown was Dorien Taylor, while Mark Pettingill represented Darrell.

Former St. George's cricket star, Dean Minors, 30, also appeared to answer to charges of cannabis importation and possession. Minors pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was arrested at the airport on New Year's Day this year.

Minors, from Wellington Slip Road, St. George's had his bail extended and will appear for mention on October 1.

Also appearing in Supreme Court, was a 40-year-old Pembroke man charged with sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old boy.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to sexual assault, sexual exploitation and engaging in a sexual act with the boy.

Damon Kono Mikka Rabain, 27, was arraigned for five counts of drug possession, including cultivating cannabis plants in his home.

Rabain, of Club Road, Smith's, pleaded not guilty to the charges of possession and intent to supply cannabis, heroin and cocaine on January 20, 2001. Rabain will appear for mention on October 1.

Also in Supreme Court, Hubert Nathalston Spence, 46, of Hermitage Road, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to housebreaking and stealing goods worth $1,150 on January 24, this year.

Spence will be sentenced today in Supreme Court for the offence.

And Stephen Andre Wilson, 42, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to housebreaking and stealing nearly $9,000 worth of goods.

He pleaded not guilty to stealing $1,721 worth of goods from Karen Madeiros on May 7, $4,520 worth of goods from Donna Mae Tucker on May 8, $1,520 worth of goods from Nelda Sampson on May 9, as well as not guilty to stealing Ms Sampson's car on the same day.

Wilson was remanded in custody and will appear for mention again on October 1.
