Rogers spreads the word on local initiative
The healthy collaboration between the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute and WindReach has been documented for an international forum by Morrisa Rogers, an occupational therapist at MWI.
Her work has been published this month in the World Federation of Occupational Therapists bulletin, with the online edition going live on October 23.
Mrs Rogers’ article is entitled “Creative Partnerships: When collaboration brings about a growth of the profession”.
It describes the partnership between the publicly funded MWI and the Windreach charity, which has allowed between 35 and 40 clients to find what Mrs Rogers’ abstract describes as “meaningful experiences outside of an institutional setting”.
Public-private partnerships are a growing trend in healthcare, with public or private entities in many jurisdictions facing difficulties dealing with challenges on their own.
“In Bermuda the reality is no different,” Mrs Rogers wrote. “This has required occupational therapist to seek opportunities to develop partnerships in the community.
“The case study exemplifies such a situation.”
She said that a desire to recognise the impact of occupational therapy had motivated her to write about this project.
“This is what continues to drive me to seek additional opportunities to educate and advocate for the profession not only in Bermuda but also internationally,” Mrs Rogers added.
