Man blames drug possession on marital woes
A 62-year-old man with no criminal record has apologised after being caught with cocaine, blaming the incident on the breakdown of his marriage.
Police stopped Samuel Richards on November 9 last year as he was driving down Deepdale Road East in Pembroke, and discovered a small quantity of cocaine as well as drug apparatus (three silver sockets and mesh wire) inside his car.
Today in Magistrates’ Court, the Devonshire resident said that he had made a poor decision due to the stress of marital problems.
However, Richards added that he had never used drugs before, and that the cocaine had been confiscated before he could try it.
Calling the police stop “divine intervention”, the defendant said that he had since turned his life around and was going to church regularly.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo adjourned the matter until October 28 and released Richards on $1,000 bail.
