Temperature drops to 54F early on Monday

An early season cold front brought the Island a record low temperature early yesterday morning.According to the Bermuda Weather Service, at around 2am the temperature dropped to just 54F, tying the record low for that day of the year.A spokesman for the service said yesterday that the lowest temperature came during a shower accompanied by small hail.“The weather is coming from a strong cold front, which is associated with an area of low pressure,” the spokesman said. The system also brought strong winds with gusts reaching more than 50mph (43 knots), leading to a small craft warning. However, he said that the weather is expected to warm as the week progresses reaching the lower 70s by Thursday or Friday as the wind direction shifts from north- northwesterly to southwesterly. And while the Island could see one or two showers today, the weather is expected to dry by Wednesday.
