Island dodges tropical storm
Bermuda has dodged another tropical storm — with a total of four forming in the Atlantic in a little more than a week.
Tropical Depression 8 was 312 nautical miles west from Bermuda at 6pm yesterday, travelling west at eight knots. The closest point to Bermuda passed yesterday morning. It was packing winds between 30 and 40 knots.
The Bermuda Weather Service reported another storm — Tropical Depression 9, which is not considered a threat to Bermuda. Its closest point of approach has passed and it was located 1,031 nautical miles west southwest of Bermuda at 6pm last night.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Gaston was upgraded to a hurricane yesterday morning with sustained winds between 90 and 110 knots but it remains no threat to the island.
BWS reported at 6m yesterday that Gaston was 504 nautical miles east of the island, travelling at four knots. Its closest approach is predicted to be 477 nautical miles to the east at 2pm today.
Tropical Storm Fiona, which formed last week, has also passed the island.
