A 29-year-old Warwick man has been fined and banned from the roads after driving with more than two times the legal amount of alcohol in his blood.

In Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Patrick Carter pleaded guilty to the offence that happened in Pembroke on July 9.

He was stopped by police after they saw him riding on the pavement of Par-la-Ville Road in the early hours of the morning. They noticed that he appeared to be intoxicated and a breathalyser test showed that he had 173 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — more than twice the legal limit of 80mg.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed him a $1,200 fine and disqualified him for 18 months.

Meanwhile, Cavin Francis, 19, of Pembroke, was charged with taking a Sym motorcycle without consent.

He was not required to enter a plea because the charges are indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court. Bail was set at $5,000 with a like surety and the matter was adjourned.
