Twins ready to crack music industry
Twins Rashae and Rashaun Bean are embarking on a musical journey together in Florida this summer, and they hope to break into the industry.
The 19-year-old CedarBridge Academy graduates, right, have just started their studies at Full Sail University, with Rashaun focusing on recording arts and Rashae on music production. Both have already picked up “dedication scholarships” based on brief essays they wrote, which are worth a prospective $4,000 towards their degrees.
“Of course I miss my family and my friends in Bermuda, but I’ll be back soon to visit. Right now I feel fine — plus everything seems cheaper here,” said Rashaun, who is living with his brother in an apartment near the campus in Winter Park.
“I didn’t think I’d actually get this far, so to actually be here is pretty exciting.”
The twins are midway through an initial four-week set of lectures, after which they will move into the more hands-on realm of music creation and production.
They have already made a name for themselves in Bermuda, after writing and recording songs such as We Appreciate You for their mother Judyann and One Day as a tribute to ten-year-old Tiffanelle Pitcher, who was killed in a 2014 cycling accident in Southampton.
While Rashaun’s ultimate dream is to perform professionally, he is also eager to perfect his production skills, thereby maximising his chances of success in the notoriously cut-throat music business.
Both he and his sibling play keyboard and dabble in the guitar, and will aim to master the industry-dominating digital audio programmes Logic Pro X and Pro Tools.
They are already learning that who you know can be equally as important as what you know.
“We’ve been told that it’s very important to network, so we’ve been meeting a lot of people and finding connections,” said Rashaun, whose chief musical inspirations are Michael Jackson and Chris Brown.
“In our free time we’re looking to do internships in studios as well, so they might remember us and hire us after we’ve graduated.
“There’s a possibility that if we can stay out here and work, we can actually make it one day and leave our mark.”
