A Pembroke teenager has received a conditional discharge after admitting his involvement in a fight between CedarBridge Academy students.

Enyche Zuill, 16, will have to comply with a string of conditions in the coming 12 months to avoid acquiring a criminal record, after pleading guilty to affray.

These include submitting to random drug and alcohol testing and following a nighttime curfew.

Three fights broke out in total between the teenagers, and were said to be linked to a territorial rivalry between students living in central areas and those from the East End.

The first incident took place outside of CedarBridge Academy on January 20, and was caught on CCTV cameras.

It was followed by scuffles on North Street, near the Transport Control Department, on February 1 and in the Palmetto Road area on March 7.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, claimed that his involvement in the first fight was self-defence.

However, the prosecution suggested that he hit another boy from behind with a helmet after others instigated the confrontation.

It was also suggested that the defendant might have gang associations, a charge he denied.

A Social Inquiry Report revealed that Zuill had been suspended before, and was due to leave CedarBridge as a result of the fight.

While handing the defendant his conditional discharge, senior magistrate Juan Wolffe told him: “I see promise in you. You need to see it in yourself.

“You’re going to be 18 pretty soon, you can’t rely on your youthfulness at that point. You’ll be a full-grown man.”
