A 27-year-old St George’s man has been fined and banned from driving for a year for failing to give a sample of breath.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Craig Symonds pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place in Pembroke on May 29.

He was also charged with driving on North Shore Road in Smith’s while impaired by alcohol on the same day. However, the Crown offered no evidence on that charge.

The court heard that Symonds was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was asked to take a breathalyser test.

He took the first test but failed to comply with instructions as he was giving the required second test.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe handed him an $800 fine and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
