A Trindade petrel has been sighted for the first time in Bermuda.

Wildlife rehabilitator and eco-tour guide Lynn Thorne made the exciting discovery on Friday while on a cahow watch two miles east of the Island with visiting ornithologist Bob Flood and his colleagues.

“It’s never been seen in Bermuda before,” Ms Thorne told The Royal Gazette. “It was amazing. It seemed to be cavorting with the cahows with no sign of aggression.”

Ms Thorne said the seabird, which is generally found in the area of Trindade Island off the coast of Brazil, had previously been spotted in the Gulf Stream.
