Bermudian Andreas Lewin has been named president of ACE?s Bermuda-based reinsurance arm, ACE Tempest Re.
ACE said it was the first time a Bermudian has been named to this position. In his new role, Mr. Lewin assumes day-to-day management of the property and casualty operations for ACE Tempest Re in Bermuda. He will report directly to the president and CEO of ACE Global Re, David Furby.
Before the promotion, which takes effect immediately, Mr. Lewin had been chief underwriting officer, US Property, for ACE Tempest Re.
?I am delighted to appoint Andreas to this position. Andreas has proved his caliber as an underwriter in our organisation and demonstrated both the talent and ability needed to lead ACE Tempest Re Bermuda to continued success,? Mr. Furby said in a Press statement.
Mr. Lewin joined ACE Tempest Re as vice-president, underwriting US Property, in April 1998 following the company?s acquisition of CAT Limited.
He replaces Christopher McKeown, who had been president & CEO since July 2002. Mr. Furby is to assume Chief Executive Officer responsibilities, pending immigration approval from the Bermuda Government.
Mr. Lewin, a Bermudian, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
