School bear braving End-to-End
The Warwick Bear is doing an End-to-End triathlon. He will begin cycling from Dockyard to St George at 6.30am — in a full suit of fur.
Once he gets there he will run/walk back to Dockyard. At 10am he will join principal Maggie McCorkell and students from Warwick Academy as they set off from the school grounds. This will be Mrs McCorkell’s final End to End before she retires and leaves Bermuda.
Once the bear gets to Dockyard he is then kayaking to Hamilton (weather permitting). This is an incredible feat and we hope you will support him by cheering him on or joining in.
We caught up with the bear on a busy day and school and asked him a few questions:
Why are you doing this and why should students join in?
“I’ve been in hibernation for a few months so it’s a chance to blow off the cobwebs and get fit.
“It’s also a chance to meet people all over Bermuda. While it’s great to have people wave and cheer along the route, to fully appreciate the End-to-End experience you have to join in.
“After all, Bermuda truly is an amazing place and this event gives you a chance to see all of it, while helping to raise funds for worthy causes.”
For how many years have you taken part?
“The bear has walked End-to-End, walked Middle-to-End and cycled Middle-to-End, cycled End-to-End-to-End and cycled End-to-End-to-Middle and then walked Middle-to-End twice. So this will be the fifth year.”
How do you maintain such amazing school spirit?
“It’s easy when you are the mascot for the best school on the best island in the world. It also helps to get support from people cheering, waving and honking their horns (even people who think my name is Yogi).”
