Fire damages empty house

Smoke damage can be seen to the exterior lower apartment of a house on St Augustine Lane in Pembroke after a fire early yesterday morning.

Fire swept through an unoccupied house in St Augustine Lane, Pembroke, in the early hours of yesterday morning.Eight firefighters and two fire engines attended the scene after an emergency call about the fire at 4.24am.Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Wenda Roberts said: “The first fire appliance arrived on scene within six minutes. Two firefighters in breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control and fully extinguished the fire within 15 minutes of arriving on scene.”She explained: “The lower level dwelling consisted of two bedrooms and a living/dining area. The fire was confined to a living/dining area where the room sustained smoke and fire damage. This area appeared to be currently under renovation, therefore there were no occupants living in the dwelling at the time of the fire.“There were no injuries reported and the matter is currently being investigated.”
