Annual Home Show sees launch of new businesses, products

Expanding: Encon owner Michael Swan and Margo Lindo look at some of his new Rubaroc line of products at the Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty Home Show over the weekend.

Companies yesterday hailed their participation in the annual Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty Home Show as a way to gain valuable exposure— and said they expected to see lots of new business in the coming weeks. At least two new companies were launched at the show, including home-improvement business iQ, and a number of new products were also unveiled.“Outstanding!,” was how GSC group sales manager Tony Italiano summed up the weekend’s event. “In 30 days I expect to have 12 sales from the show, and in 90 days, 25 to 30 sales, residential and commercial. I have given out 1,000 business cards.”Joshua Bate Trading co-owner Joshua Bate said the show was a great opportunity for exposure in the community for his business, which imports and sells appliances and other home products as close to possible as US retail prices.“I expect our phones will be ringing for a couple of weeks after the show as people realise we can bring in products for less,” he said.Michael Swan, owner of alternative energy solutions company Encon, said he had seen a lot of interest in his new offerings, which include LED lighting solutions, low-flush water-saving toilets, and Rubaroc, a stain-resistant, non-skid surface that is virtually indestructible. Mr Swan said he was planning a new showroom on Happy Valley Road for the new line of products.Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty said turnout was as good as last year, if not better.“While all the exhibitors have sore feet, we are excited about another successful year,” said agency manager Susan Thompson.“I spoke to a number of exhibitors and they were all pleased with the turnout, with many stating that ran out of ‘giveaways’ earlier than last year.“It is difficult to come up with total numbers, but we had a steady stream of guests all day. Based on past shows, we estimate 700 attendees (Friday) evening with around 2,500 (Saturday). Thankfully, once again, the weather was not a deterrent.”More than 60 exhibitors took part, including tech companies, law firms, the banks, insurance companies, designers, home/outdoor goods and appliance sellers.
