Firefighters tackle laundromat blaze

A fire broke out at the Quickie Lickie Laundromat on Serpentine Road at 2.19pm yesterday.Two vehicles and five personnel from the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded.Firefighters broke into the back door of the Pembroke facility to extinguish the fire inside a dryer that had articles of clothing in it.Spokesman Jay Donawa said: “Firefighters used forced entry to gain access into the area that the drying unit was located as it was locked with a dead bolt.“The quick actions of the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading into other areas within the building,” he said. And the fire was “contained and extinguished within several minutes of the arrival of the fire appliance”.Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
